Among the most widely heard are those referring to breakfast: Is this the most important meal of the day? Is it essential if you want to lose weight? Must we have juice, milk and some food of cereal origin? Let&#8217;s see what&#8217;s true about this matter and its relationship with diabetes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We&#8217;ve all heard, time and again, immortal phrases about breakfast. Does science back up in any way that breakfast is the most important meal of the day or that there is a pattern of &#8220;ideal&#8221; foods to include in said breakfast? Otherwise we would die of starvation. So from the formal point of view everyone who eats regularly has breakfast at some point during the day. The key in this case is in deciding whether it is advisable to start our day eating something earlier or later. And the truth is that there is no clear answer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is expressed thus <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/27184286\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the recent review of the matter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in May 2016 which evaluated the differences in memory, attention level, coordination and language of two groups: those who have breakfast before starting their day and those who do not. The results <\/span><b>are unable to establish a definitive conclusion regarding the importance of breakfast<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The only clear advantage between those who had breakfast compared to those who do not was established in the ability to remember long-term memory elements and, in any case, with only a very slight advantage over those who do not have breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, to put breakfast in its place without the need to grant it religious significance, it is difficult to think that eating more or less late in the morning (two or three hours later) can significantly condition our general state of health or performance. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-2 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:10px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\" style=\"background-position:left top;background-repeat:no-repeat;-webkit-background-size:cover;-moz-background-size:cover;-o-background-size:cover;background-size:cover;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><h2>The ideal breakfast does NOT exist<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In reality it does exist, but only in advertising. In our environment we are all too accustomed to messages from the food industry that make us believe in the typical elements of an &#8220;ideal&#8221; breakfast based on cereals (bread, biscuits, breakfast cereals, etc.), dairy products and juices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>A breakfast will be &#8220;ideal&#8221; the more its ingredients are identified with <a href=\"https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/en\/golden-rules-to-eat-healthy\/\">the <\/a><\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/en\/golden-rules-to-eat-healthy\/\">healthy food plate<\/a> of the Public Health School of Harvard University.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-3 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"margin-top:10px;margin-bottom:10px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\" style=\"background-position:left top;background-repeat:no-repeat;-webkit-background-size:cover;-moz-background-size:cover;-o-background-size:cover;background-size:cover;padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;\"><style type='text\/css'>.reading-box-container-1 .element-bottomshadow:before,.reading-box-container-1 .element-bottomshadow:after{opacity:0.7;}<\/style><div class=\"fusion-reading-box-container reading-box-container-1\" style=\"margin-top:50px;margin-bottom:40px;\"><div class=\"reading-box\" style=\"background-color:#f5f5f5;border-width:1px;border-color:#f5f5f5;border-top-width:3px;border-top-color:var(--primary_color);border-style:solid;\"><div class=\"reading-box-additional\">\n<h2>Advice to put into practice at breakfast<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload size-full wp-image-4665 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/PLATO_SALUDABLE_EN.jpg\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/PLATO_SALUDABLE_EN.jpg\" alt=\"myths of breakfast\" width=\"308\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27308%27%20height%3D%27314%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20308%20314%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27308%27%20height%3D%27314%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/PLATO_SALUDABLE_EN-66x66.jpg 66w, https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/PLATO_SALUDABLE_EN-294x300.jpg 294w, https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/PLATO_SALUDABLE_EN.jpg 308w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-orig-sizes=\"(max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/>Organise, and above all plan, your breakfast independently of the time at which you have it (straight after getting up, after showering or three hours later). The fact of planning it will avoid the classic haphazard solution which usually involves the presence of inadvisable foods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eat what you like for breakfast as long as it is within the dietary recommendations already discussed. There are no ideal foods for breakfast, but there are advisable foods, in general, in your food intake and with the aim of reducing the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/latam.patiadiabetes.com\/en\/findrisk-know-my-risk-for-type-2-diabetes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">risk of diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026 although there are also foods that are not especially advisable. Curiously, the foods advertised as ideal for breakfast usually belong to the latter category.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose fresh vegetables to make mini (or macro) salads depending on your circumstances; fresh fruit in season, truly wholegrain foods; lean meats, fish, dried fruit, use (healthy) leftovers from the day before&#8230; and don&#8217;t let the dictatorship of advertising restrict your imagination at breakfast time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Breakfast is no more important than lunch or dinner. No intake of food is more important than the others.
