The genetic test asset the risk factors related to type 2 diabetes

Last March 23rd, Professor Jakko Tuomilehto participated at seminar “Action in Public Health Based on Evidence: Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Case”, at Carlos III Health Institute, Madrid. Due to his presence, the ATRESMEDIA TV program, Objetivo Bienestar, interviewed him to talk about his approach to type 2 diabetes and its prevention.
Dr. Tuomilehto, member of the scientific committee of Patia, besides the nutritionist Jaana Lisndtröm, the creator of FINDRISC (Finish Diabetes Risk Score) test, one of the most effective tools to detect the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
In the interview, Professor Tuomilehto talks about diagnosis of diabetes, the need to improve public health programs in the prevention of this pandemic disease and the importance of genetics in preventing the risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes.
Clinical trials conducted by both scientists confirm that type 2 diabetes can be prevented. Their results, published in prestigious medical journals, such as Nature or Jama, determined that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes can be reduced by half in high-risk people.o.
